Effect of motor imagery and actual practice on learning professional medical skills

Abstract Background The peripheral venous catheter is the most frequently used medical device in hospital care to administer intravenous treatment or take blood samples by introducing a into vein. aim of this study was examine effect motor imagery associated with actual training on learning insertion simulated system. Method This prospective monocentre 3rd year students. Forty students were assigned experimental group ( n = 20) performing both real practice and control trained through only. We also recruited reference 20 professional nurses defining benchmark for target performance. Results learned faster than beginning phase p < 0.001), reaching expected level after 4 sessions .87) whereas needed 5 reach same .88). Both groups at end scheduled training. Conclusions Therefore, improved skills learning, limited time level. Motor may strengthen technical skill learning.
